Being a Legit Teacher: Round 2

Hey Guys!

Today was the day I became the actual Miss Row Bow for almost a whole day. The Year 6 children were treated to a trip as a well done for their SATs results, and Row was allowed to teach the Year 5s. Woohoo! When I say teach I mean we made our own school magazine. I gave a brief explanation about what I do as Editor for my uni mag and interning at magazines, then ask the kids what they would like to write about. Both years I've done this lesson I've had one of the boys want to be Fashion Editor- I love that it isn't seen as a 'girly' section.

Obviously every self respecting teacher wears a Cat Eared headband for their first day at work (although I've done this before-see last year's look here!). And remember my patterned bodycon theory? I've done the same here. But I didn't have a cover up so my stomach was a little more on show today. However, little tan belt breaks up the shape and emphasises my small waist. My shoes were from the New Look sale at the beginning of summer. They were super comfy all day...until I realised I'd left my keys inside the house and had to wait on my doorstep for 40 minutes at the end of the rainy day waiting for someone to let me in!

With a Little Help From My Frozen Friends

Hey Guys!

These Sports Day posts are becoming popular feature here on What Row Chose... .My first post was cute, the next year was super cute and this year I think I've managed too cute. I've also managed to look less sporty as the years go on. If I make Sports Day next year I'll probs just end up in my classic ball gown and feather boa combination!

Naturally, just to prove how 'down with the kids' I am I wore my Frozen t-shirt. However, it is a little see through with the plain white back. And it's just my luck that the only sports bra I own (you can tell how much sport I participate in...) is black. So I wore a white bandeau top to cover it up. Seamless-kinda! The blue tones on the top made it easy to decide which sports shorts would match. I also went for an icy combination on my feet with white and blue frilly socks and white and silver trainers. I think this look just cemented the, 'If Row Bow was a teacher, she'd be the coolest teacher every' theory, hehe!

#BloggersBakeAlong: Coconut Crème Brûlée

Hey Guys!

(Yeah, because that title is going to be url friendly...)

So I may be a teenie weenie bit behind with my #BloggersBakeAlong series of posts, but I will get there eventually. Even if I finish at Christmas. Even though the actual Bakers finish in two weeks! It's gone so quickly! This post is about my Crème Brûlée from desserts week. I kinda forgot the whole GBBO 'make it amazing' ethos. However, I did make it successfully with coconut milk, which I was pretty chuffed about. I made it with tinned coconut milk because it is a lot thicker and more similar to the cream I think you're meant to use.

Look at how few ingredients I needed! This is my kind of baking! 400ml coconut milk, 3 eggs and 6oz of caster sugar. I was thinking it might not be very flavourful so I also popped in a few drops of yummy vanilla essence. To start with, put 4 ramekins into a baking tray with tall sides so you can fill it with hot water later.

Melt half of the sugar in a pan and use it to fill the bottom of four ramekins. DON'T TOUCH THE SUGAR WHILE IT'S DOING ITS THING! This is the one thing I thought I had learnt from Miss H on Sweets Made Simple. But I was worried it wasn't working so I stirred the sugar, which caused it to crystallise. D'oh!

While you're not touching the sugar and letting it melt on it's own accord, warm the milk slowly on a low heat. In another bowl beat all the eggs and other 3oz of sugar, gradually add in the milk and as much vanilla essence that pleases you. Then pour this milky/eggy/sugary mixture into the ramekins and fill to the top. I recommend putting the baking tray, that hosts the ramekins, into the oven before you pour the mixture. The pots get very full and there is potential for some major spillage! Fill the tray with boiling water to surround your little creations and cook for 30 minutes at Gas Mark 2.

Turns out I had them in at a temperature more like Gas Mark 1 so mine took almost an hour to cook. Silly me! But just look at the bobby dazzlers all finished!

This was the first time I'd ever eaten Crème Brûlée...and sadly I was not a fan. To the left, in the image above, is Mumma Bow's finished dish and to the right is mine. I couldn't get over the eggy taste. Feel like I should have seen that coming...

Kimono Cover Up

Hey Guys!

I'm not gonna lie, a full bodycon dress kinda scares me.

Although I try to hide it, I can admit I have little bit of a gut. Sometimes I think unless you're physically overweight, people can think, 'Ohemgee! You're so little how can you have any body issues?' (I'm watching Loose Women as I write this and they're talking about diet and weight and the like- great minds think alike!) But then when I admit my thoughts I never want to sound like I'm boasting how little and petite I am. I am just a regular Row Bow, Little Miss Average (appearance wise, personality wise I'm a hoot!). I know nobody is staring at my tummy when I dare to bare in a bodycon the dress, but I know almost everybody will have that thought cross their mind at some point. However, I have found the perfect way to get the best of both worlds-confidence and a tight fitting dress. Parade about in a highly patterned dress! This, mixed with a highly patterned lightweight coverup, like this chiffon kimono, and you are on to a winning match!

The school I was working at when I wore this look, had a visiting teacher from India. It was her last day at the school this particular day and she'd decided that I'd made enough of an impact on her experience that she'd like to keep the memory and have a photo with me. Ohh, I'm sooo popular! We tried the first attempt and after reviewing it she said, 'You look so nice, Your posing is very good.' Isn't she sweet? I told her I'm used to talking photos of my outfits almost everyday, so I've got this posing thing down, hehe!

Cross Country Cutie

Hey Guys!

Now, if you've seen the title of this post and hoped today is the day Row Bow finally shares her fitness regime, mega soz, but you've come to the wrong place. Truth is there is no fitness regime to share, there's just a cute outfit I wore when everyone else took part in the strenuous exercise.

Even though I often yearn to be back in the solid structure of a school day, other times I am so relived I've done my stretch in there! Times like when the whole school has to do cross country. I am so bad at running, it's a joke. I remember in Year 10 I'd have my art lesson in the morning, then I'd always dread after break because it was P.E and I could see the sports field from the art room window. I love dancing and Zumba, but rugby in the rain with mud was defo my Debbie downer moment of the week. Now I make the cut as a staff member in the classroom, I can just stand at the side lines in my pretty look and cheer all the kiddies on. Even the ones who might not be the fittest enjoy the whole school cross country- I think they're mad! I wore trainers to make it look like I was kind of prepared to get involved, but not really because there would have been some major flashing under my skirt if I was running! I'm excited to wear this jumper, from Kylie @ M&Co, throughout the winter. I love the glittery lipstick prints!

Gorgeous in Geometric

Hey Guys!

Planning enough outfits to last me almost 6 weeks of work at a primary school takes a lot of effort, and a lot of clothes. I'm not the kind of girl to repeat a look. I don't even like to wear the same cardigan 2 days in a row. Some days whipping out a high-colour, intense print dress makes life sooo much easier! I bought this dress yonks ago and it is still doing well & being the life-saver it was always destined to be. I found the best sale on holiday once, so instead of paying a crazy amount for it I only departed with a £5 note. Bargain! I love the sharp shapes and super vivid yellow throughout the dress. Even though there's a 95% chance it rained the day I wore it, the sunny colours totally brightened my day. To match the obvious silver zip down the front, I've accessorised with a silver headband and silver necklace. Nothing too blingy, because the dress itself is already quite the attention seeker!

School Trip Styling

Hey Guys!

One of the best things about volunteering at a local primary school during the last term, is all the fab fun end of year activities. I'm talking Sports Day (watch out for that look!), school trips to the zoo (like here!) and even visits to environmental learning charities...Wait, what? Ok. So it wasn't as glamorous as the whole school trip to the zoo that I managed to bag myself a place on last year. But it was actually pretty interesting and y'know what? I really did learn a few new facts. Things like: when you see a field full of lovely grain and food for the harvest, it might not actually be for that purpose at all. Instead the whole field is used to grow food for the animals in the field next door. I think it's safe to say I will not be turning my delicate hands to farming any time soon...

Luckily, it was a beautifully sunny day for this trip, whereas the younger half of the school went the next day when the heavens really did open! On this sunnier day we even managed to find a Pick Your Own Fruits field. I was secretly uber excited about this because I've always wanted to pick my own strawberries. However, it kinda takes the fun out of it when you spend the whole time dragging kids around an ominous field trying to find the darn strawbs!

This was my little learner look for the day. Check out that strawberry necklace, how well co-ordinated is that with the days events! I bought these airy giraffe print shorts for my holiday, initially. But I kinda forgot to pack them... So lucky I wore them here!

Miss Row Bow Makes the Cut

Hey Guys!

When you start work at a new place, there's nothing you want more than to feel like one of the gang. Well, I feel like that anyway. Surprisingly, it takes me a long time to actually come out of my shell when I'm around a new group of people at work. I've been volunteering at the beginning of every summer for the past 6 years, and I still feel like I act mega awkward when I arrive each year. But I defo felt like I'd made the cut when I was invited out to a leaving meal for one of the staff. Who knows if they actually wanted me there or were just being polite? But it was really nice to chill with my new buds outside of 'work'.

I didn't want to overdress for the occasion and stick out like a saw thumb. But I think I probs ended up doing that anyway as everyone else sat there in a cute top and smart skirt. We went to a greek restaurant and in a subconscious way I think I've channeled a grecian vibe with this look. That comes from the lacy off-th-shoulder top and golden head chain. Adding a complimentary hue to the blue of the trousers, I wore an orange crop top under the lace.

Man, I LOVE wearing my hair like this. It's just so pretty and dainty! I tried to add a little more eyeliner to make create a different between work make up and night out make up. A nude lip was definitely called for because who wants to worry about lippy when you're scoffing your face with good food?

Rejoice! John Newman has debuted wonderful new music from his upcoming second album. I really like the super jazzy sounds coming from Tiring Game. The song is very funky throughout with trumpets and twangy guitars subtly jamming in the background. John has recruited a little bit o' help from Charlie Wilson on choir duty for this ditty.
