So You Can Get the Staff!

Hey Guys!

Finally, we have reached the end of my teacher outfit series! Instead of focusing on the end, let's think of all the new wonderful opportunities this brings- outfits seasonal to the current weather, winter warmers and of course christmas party outfits!

This was the last day of the summer term, and with the end of term comes lots of awards and prizes. I must have made a pretty decent impression on everyone there because this gal earned herself Star of the Week! A cheerful & chirpy attitude, vaguely plausible art skills and making yummy lunches for the staff was all it took! After tipping up all during but one summer term for the past 7 years, I'm kinda thinking I should leave them to it from now on. I gotta get my actual life sorted and heading in the right direction. Even though it's not half as fun and chilling with the 10 year olds!

I think any outfit with a tulle skirt is always a winner! I love my peach one from Chic Wish (I last wore it here) and think it actually looks pretty grown up with a simple black high neck top... Well, as grown up and a ballerina skirt can do! I'm going to have to think of some wintery ways to dress it up! You can't miss the extremely bright floral garland, this beaut was from Primark- reduced, of course!

I'm Feeling this Jumpsuit

Hey Guys!

I'm well and truly into my third year of University now, and man, it is tough! Even though I'm only in for like 1 and a half hours some weeks, and 3 and a half for others, there is sooo much work to do! At the moment I'm on the hunt from Graphic Designers. Luckily an old school chum has kindly offered to help me, #saviour!! (Lot of wine and chocolate coming her way!) But there are so many other things to be looking for, then I have to work on my dissertation and I also intern one day a week... Getting my life together is proving to be very time consuming. Why did nobody warm me about this? HeHe!

Anyway, this look is... You guessed it, say it with me now, 'from when I worked at the primary school over summer'. It's still cute though, even if not appropriate for the 19 inches of snow predicted for this weekend!

You know when someone buys you a present and you think, 'Oh, I should wear that next time I see them.' So you do and they don't notice at all that you're rocking their awesome gift! This beautifully beaded bangle was a gift from a teacher at the school. She gave to me as a thank you for my help last year, and I thought this was the perfect look to prove to her I do really wear it!

L-O-V-E Summer

Hey Guys!

Isn't this a lovely summery look for such a gloomy, autumn evening!

Looking back now, I'm not really sure this vest top was the best choice. To be honest it might be time to get rid of this kids section piece. Not that I have much boobage, but the higher neckline and button detailing sits at an awkward place so my chest looks a little strange. The skirt is super patterned! Not my usual taste, but when it's only £3 in the middle of summer that definitely is my taste. Because of the busy print I think minimalistic pieces need to be incorporated into the rest look. This brings out the best of the skirt design. The cropped denim jacket and cute floral garland give this outfit a bit of a colourful boho look. #Lush!

Oh my goodness! I, literally, cannot get over the uber pretty styling in Little Mix's new video. Girlband auditions? Sign me up!

Me & My Pom Poms

Hey Guys!

It's finally started. My descent into adulthood is in sight. I can't believe how quickly my third and final year of Uni has rolled around. Ahhhhh! But I shouldn't stress too much because my Facebook feed is full of school friends declaring new jobs and all that lovely grown up stuff. I'm not sure I'm quite ready to deal with all that yet. I can't imagine a life without Student Finance-like, does that even exist? So instead of facing up to reality I'm going to show you one of the final few outfits I wore over summer. This was worn during the final week of term at the primary school I had been volunteering at for 6 weeks.

Sometimes the best judge of a successful outfit, is what Mumma Bow thinks. If it's too 'cool' and 'fashiony' she isn't keen, mainly because I look like a right numpty in shapeless, pale, baggy clothes. But if she comments a few days later, 'Ohhh, I thought that purple and pink outfit you had on the other day was really lovely. The colours were beautiful,' then I'm on to a winner. #WhataTotalBabe! In this look I am wearing a purple body con dress (from the kids section, obvz), a silvery-pink metallic floral skirt (again a classic kid's section find) and a rather snazzy fabric pom pom headband (from where else but the kid's section). Do you see a theme? It only get's embarrassing when a small child pipes up they have the same piece of clothing and you know they mean the exact piece, not a kiddy copy. #Awks...

Ohhh yeah, my absolute fave Selena Gomez has more new music out. Yessss!

Being a Legit Teacher: Round 2

Hey Guys!

Today was the day I became the actual Miss Row Bow for almost a whole day. The Year 6 children were treated to a trip as a well done for their SATs results, and Row was allowed to teach the Year 5s. Woohoo! When I say teach I mean we made our own school magazine. I gave a brief explanation about what I do as Editor for my uni mag and interning at magazines, then ask the kids what they would like to write about. Both years I've done this lesson I've had one of the boys want to be Fashion Editor- I love that it isn't seen as a 'girly' section.

Obviously every self respecting teacher wears a Cat Eared headband for their first day at work (although I've done this before-see last year's look here!). And remember my patterned bodycon theory? I've done the same here. But I didn't have a cover up so my stomach was a little more on show today. However, little tan belt breaks up the shape and emphasises my small waist. My shoes were from the New Look sale at the beginning of summer. They were super comfy all day...until I realised I'd left my keys inside the house and had to wait on my doorstep for 40 minutes at the end of the rainy day waiting for someone to let me in!

With a Little Help From My Frozen Friends

Hey Guys!

These Sports Day posts are becoming popular feature here on What Row Chose... .My first post was cute, the next year was super cute and this year I think I've managed too cute. I've also managed to look less sporty as the years go on. If I make Sports Day next year I'll probs just end up in my classic ball gown and feather boa combination!

Naturally, just to prove how 'down with the kids' I am I wore my Frozen t-shirt. However, it is a little see through with the plain white back. And it's just my luck that the only sports bra I own (you can tell how much sport I participate in...) is black. So I wore a white bandeau top to cover it up. Seamless-kinda! The blue tones on the top made it easy to decide which sports shorts would match. I also went for an icy combination on my feet with white and blue frilly socks and white and silver trainers. I think this look just cemented the, 'If Row Bow was a teacher, she'd be the coolest teacher every' theory, hehe!

#BloggersBakeAlong: Coconut Crème Brûlée

Hey Guys!

(Yeah, because that title is going to be url friendly...)

So I may be a teenie weenie bit behind with my #BloggersBakeAlong series of posts, but I will get there eventually. Even if I finish at Christmas. Even though the actual Bakers finish in two weeks! It's gone so quickly! This post is about my Crème Brûlée from desserts week. I kinda forgot the whole GBBO 'make it amazing' ethos. However, I did make it successfully with coconut milk, which I was pretty chuffed about. I made it with tinned coconut milk because it is a lot thicker and more similar to the cream I think you're meant to use.

Look at how few ingredients I needed! This is my kind of baking! 400ml coconut milk, 3 eggs and 6oz of caster sugar. I was thinking it might not be very flavourful so I also popped in a few drops of yummy vanilla essence. To start with, put 4 ramekins into a baking tray with tall sides so you can fill it with hot water later.

Melt half of the sugar in a pan and use it to fill the bottom of four ramekins. DON'T TOUCH THE SUGAR WHILE IT'S DOING ITS THING! This is the one thing I thought I had learnt from Miss H on Sweets Made Simple. But I was worried it wasn't working so I stirred the sugar, which caused it to crystallise. D'oh!

While you're not touching the sugar and letting it melt on it's own accord, warm the milk slowly on a low heat. In another bowl beat all the eggs and other 3oz of sugar, gradually add in the milk and as much vanilla essence that pleases you. Then pour this milky/eggy/sugary mixture into the ramekins and fill to the top. I recommend putting the baking tray, that hosts the ramekins, into the oven before you pour the mixture. The pots get very full and there is potential for some major spillage! Fill the tray with boiling water to surround your little creations and cook for 30 minutes at Gas Mark 2.

Turns out I had them in at a temperature more like Gas Mark 1 so mine took almost an hour to cook. Silly me! But just look at the bobby dazzlers all finished!

This was the first time I'd ever eaten Crème Brûlée...and sadly I was not a fan. To the left, in the image above, is Mumma Bow's finished dish and to the right is mine. I couldn't get over the eggy taste. Feel like I should have seen that coming...

Kimono Cover Up

Hey Guys!

I'm not gonna lie, a full bodycon dress kinda scares me.

Although I try to hide it, I can admit I have little bit of a gut. Sometimes I think unless you're physically overweight, people can think, 'Ohemgee! You're so little how can you have any body issues?' (I'm watching Loose Women as I write this and they're talking about diet and weight and the like- great minds think alike!) But then when I admit my thoughts I never want to sound like I'm boasting how little and petite I am. I am just a regular Row Bow, Little Miss Average (appearance wise, personality wise I'm a hoot!). I know nobody is staring at my tummy when I dare to bare in a bodycon the dress, but I know almost everybody will have that thought cross their mind at some point. However, I have found the perfect way to get the best of both worlds-confidence and a tight fitting dress. Parade about in a highly patterned dress! This, mixed with a highly patterned lightweight coverup, like this chiffon kimono, and you are on to a winning match!

The school I was working at when I wore this look, had a visiting teacher from India. It was her last day at the school this particular day and she'd decided that I'd made enough of an impact on her experience that she'd like to keep the memory and have a photo with me. Ohh, I'm sooo popular! We tried the first attempt and after reviewing it she said, 'You look so nice, Your posing is very good.' Isn't she sweet? I told her I'm used to talking photos of my outfits almost everyday, so I've got this posing thing down, hehe!
