Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibition

Hey Guys!

What feels like a lifetime ago, way back at the beginning of summer, I took a trip to the Barbican Art Gallery. I went to see a little exhibition of Jean Paul Gaultier's work. There were many sections to the exhibition, including a little area devoted to the stage costumes he had worked on for artists such as Kylie and Madonna! So cool, that's exactly what I want to be doing in the future. I thought I'd show you a couple of outfits that I really liked. They aren't from the performance costume area, but I think they were pretty fab anyway. The face that you see in the first collage of images was a projection shinning onto most of the downstairs mannequins. When I first went into the exhibition it was the creepiest thing since they manage to look directly at you and then start wittering away in French. Creepy! Then there was Jean Paul Gaultier with his face projected onto a mannequin and he spoke about the collection of work.

I kept my look very simple with a black floral crop top and a long black gypsy skirt. If you look really closely I've got a colourful scrunchie wrapped around the bun in my hair. The golden necklace has alternating silver and black glittering triangles. The black ties the necklace in with the rest of the image, and who doesn't love a little sparkle?! I wore orange beaded sandals to keep with the warmer tones of the top. But since the base of the sandals is tan, they aren't too noticeable.

How pretty is the riverside outside the Barbican? It's like a little utopia, sans the run down flat buildings behind. Obvz!

Prim & Proper

Hey Guys!

Just as September marks the beginning of the new school year for the kids, it also marks a new term at work. After a delightfully long summer holiday, I was ready to jump back into the start of a new term. There are lots of new cute little ones at work at the beginning of term, and you just can't help but coo over them. Although for a drama class the quietly shy 4-year olds aren't the ideal candidates, they are superbly adorable!

Not wanting to scare any of the newbies I went for a pretty subtle look. I was introduced to the new classes as, 'This is Row and sometimes she turn up wearing cat ears. How funny!' Well, that is me in a nutshell really, isn't it? HeHe! But I managed to abscond from the cat ears this particular morning and dress pretty darn elegantly for an early Saturday morning. However, it may have been a little bit too early since my clothes weren't even ready for my and I managed to make a lovely hole in the back of my tights (I just don't know my own strength sometimes!). I love the bold red and purple combination. Tonally, they match so well. I worked with the white polka dots and slung a little pearl necklace around my collar. My lips are coloured in with a Kate Moss Rimmel Lipstick in shade 110. It's a lovely bold red, but not quite pillar box red. The matte finish means I'm not worried it will go walkies around my face and teeth throughout the day.

Chris Brown & Ariana Grande have teamed up to produce a very eery collaboration. Don't Be Gone Too Long isn't a sound that you'd expect to come from either of them really. I like the composition of having both Chris and Ari sing the whole song together. Usually you'd have each artist have their own verse to 'Tra La La' all over. The video has a kind of medieval fairy tale vibe going on. And, biggest shock ever, Miss Grande abandons the half-up-half-down look! Well, I never!

Meow, Night Out!

Hey Guys!

When the first years bound onto campus at Uni, I’m pretty sure their motto for the first couple of months is, ‘Down it Freshaaaa’. Unfortunately little Row over here is the worst candidate to ‘down it’. At Uni my mug is the big ass Sports Direct mug,  and when it comes to drinks that is the cup I use. I know, I am one particularly classy bird! But then I just end up drinking it like juice and end up only enjoying an hour of a party before being put to bed. On this night out with my buds it would appear I drink wine like juice even when it’s in a proper glass too!
For drinks I chose to wear a pretty black dress and team it with a cropped denim jacket for a dressy-yet-chilled look. In my inebriated state I forgot to photo to cute leopard print collar, but you can kind of see it in the full images. Because it’s just a small detail of leopard print I don’t think it looks tacky or cheap, which an overkill of the pattern can lead to. The dress is from the kids section, once again, and now I will admit is just a wee bit too short (unless I planned to stand still the entire night and maybe crack out a step-together-step-tap if I was feeling wild!). To combat this length issue, I wore a lacy slip underneath, which has a laced hem. So even though you can see the slip underneath it kind of looks like part of the dress as it’s a delicate addition that blends in well. I also think this adds a greater sense of maturity to the look because lace hems are quite lingerie-esque. To compliment the brown and tan tones of the animal print, I wore brown Chelsea boots with black tights.

I was recently contacted by the lovely Rachel, part of a street team, who happily informed me about a new singer, Hayley Solano. She informed my that Hayley is a fantastic storyteller and her lyrics revolve around a great narrative. These personal, heart-felt songs have sounds similar to Gabrielle Aplin or Birdy’s music. I thought I’d give her most recent debut a listen and I realised everything Rachel had told me was so true. If I Was There is a slow-paced ballad which sees Hayley's voice accompanied my acoustic guitar alone, which shows off how strong her voice is. It is such a pretty twinkling about the distance between two lovers.

Hot To-PICKS

Hey Guys!

He, He, He! I'm so witty with today's title. I bet nobody's written that before. Obviously today's post is a selection of Hot Picks from Hot Topic. I basically just went straight to the Disney section and decided I wanted all of it! But I have limited myself to only 9 tops. I have been so close to buying myself all of them several times, but the international postage always puts me off. Sad Times!

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Click the image to enlarge.

1- Belle is my favourite Disney Princess, so it would make sense that she makes a few appearances on this Disney list. This is an image from a happier time in the film, where Belle dances with the Beast in a beautiful yellow ball gown in the castle's grand ball room.
2- 'Up where they walk, Up where they run, Up where they stay all day in the suuuun!" I can just picture Ariel singing those magical lines as she swirls up towards the light. Man I love that song, and I love this top!
3- Although the original film is top of my list, my favourite look for Belle comes from her Enchanted Christmas tale. I love the red snow-coat with the fluffy hood. It's practically pink, which is probably why I identify with it the most, hehe!
4- Without meaning to sound to art-critic-y, I think that this film still actually sits really nicely on the top. It doesn't appear awkward, which some versions of these tops do. Also it's one of the cutest moments in a Disney film, ever!
5- I really like the warm, reddy/purple colours of this jumper. The image is of the Stained Glass window from Beauty and the Beast. It even has the glass-encased rose on the sleeves and back.
6- I've always thought Esmerelda was one of the sassiest Disney gals, along with Megara. But this print shows a softer, caring side as she helps Quasimodo.
7- Scrawled with 'Never Grow Up' and the characters from Peter Pan, this sweet little crop top makes use of added fringe detail reminiscent of the lost boys fun and games.
8-Quite different from the previous tops, this vest top has an almost grey scale illustration of Tinker Bell. It's a more grown up way to wear Disney.
9- This print is actually the same as number 5 but it's on a vest top instead. I'd happily accept both versions.

What do you think of my Disney Picks? Which Disney moment would flaunt on a top?

Five Fall Favourites

Hey Guys!

Although here in England we have been lucky enough to hold on to a few more sunny days this September, it only makes the early nights even more obvious. I love it when the weather is really bold & sunny, but there's still a slight breeze to the air. These earlier nights also mean beautiful sunsets debut earlier in the night, so as I'm sat working away next to the kitchen window I can see all the pretty colours and patterns in the sky. Who doesn't love a burning orange sunset?

Today's outfit is a compilation of my Five Fall Favourites. They are: a Wide Brimmed Hat (preferably red), an Oversized Faux-Fur Jacket, Tall Brown Boots, Metallic Brown Eyeshadow and Brown Glossy Lips. I think that these 5 features will be pretty popular on the high street throughout fall so if you want to try them out go and give Raise.com a little visit. On Raise.com you can buy and sell gift cards pre-loaded with a wide range of store credit. It's a pretty neat trick because if you have a gift card or two lying around which you think someone else might get better use from, you can sell it on Raise.com. How cool is that?

Raise.com include lots of different shops, predominantly American brands but I have found my Five Fall Favourites in UK stores featuring on Raise.com. Topshop and Urban Outfitters have lovely floppy brimmed hat and many fur coats. H&M have the best knee high boots, which I will definitely be hunting down. Sally Beauty stocks Lord & Berry and this brilliant dark bronze eyeshadow and natural brown lipstick.

Perfect Smile

Hey Guys!

I wouldn’t normally wear anything blog-worthy for a simple trip, like one to the dentist, but I actually thought this shirt-dress was pretty cool. So cool in fact I though that I’d share it with the entire world and most importantly you. Aren’t you lucky? I’m sure what you’re really here to read is how to get the perfect mile, as hinted by the title. Well it all starts with… Lol, jk! I always get told I have a perfect smile when I go to the dentist, but that’s all down to the craftsmanship of my orthodontist. That’s right kids, Row Bow, the goddess like entity, had braces. Shock Horror! I’m pretty sure most unfortunate year 8's have to go through the trauma of braces. My first wire wasn’t cut to the right length so for 6 weeks I had it catching on my cheek when I ate- I thought it was meant to be like that. Mmmm, yummy! I’m full of fun braces stories; another one being that eating a banana made the wire ping off one half of my train tracks. Swallowing elastics, getting gum wrapped around the metal work, defying the orthodontist by eating whole apples, I’ve got stories about them all!

On to the look. I’ve had this shirt-dress for a good few years and although I wore it a reasonable amount when I bought it, I don’t seem to be getting much wear from it of late. I used to always wear it with trousers or leggings. But I am digging the bare legs, shirt dress look. It’s a really good length to wear as a dress actually. With the cardigan over the top the whole look became very ill fitted, so I tied the shirt’s belt over the cardigan instead. This flatters my figure far better and adds a hint of femininity to the typically masculine plaid shirt. I added a very chunky necklace that balances out with the large bow around my waist.

I love playing around with the sun in my images. The glare that’s sometimes created is so striking.

Since I'm a true Disney kid it would be wrong not to mention Nick Jonas', of JoBros fame, musical comeback. This isn't a comeback to musicals on stage, he's already done that. This is a comeback to our iPods, computer screens and being the catchy song on loop in our heads. Having already released non-JoBro music with his side project Nick Jonas and the Administration, Nick is going totally alone this time. NJATA had a strong guitar lead sound with some rather jazzy melodies. But Nick's solo stuff is a lot darker, especially Chains. You just have to watch the video to see Nick is proving how much he's grown since disbanding from the Jonas Brothers. Jealous is another video to look out for, big difference in style compared to Chains. But the lyrics is kind of in the same vein as Chains although it presents more musical production. The boppier-beat is defo more up Row Bow's street.

Braid + Balloons

Hey Guys!

For our second pre-Becky-departure date with my buds, we went for a typical pub lunch. I do love a good pub lunch, theres a really homely feel about pub grub. I always go for the sausage, chips and onion gravy there's no beating it. Apart from maybe a cheeky ham, egg and chips occasionally! On the way home we stumbled upon some lonely party balloons grounded directly in the middle of the road. As we slowed dow to 'inspect' them, naturally Row Bow just went with it and picked them up. I do feel a little guilty since the 5s on them suggest they were from a little one's party. But at 4 o'clock in the afternoon I'm sure the kiddie would have been totally party-pooped and not even noticed I'd kindly re-homed his balloons...

I chose to wear a really simple look for a chilled pub lunch. I could have worn my glass slippers, but I don't know, I just felt I might show everybody up in them. And it would have been a total nightmare had I lost a shoe in a field since we walked there, hehe! Instead of chelsea boots I put on my riding boots, which are a great flat footed alternative. These are a little big for me but nothing a good pair of fluffy socks won't fix over the winter months. I could hardly say no to the total barg of £17 for a good quality pair of boots. Not that I'll every use them for their intended horse riding use.

Kate from Great British Bake Off is who I'm putting my money on. Well, until this week when she was borderline on the chopping board! As well as her delish bakes, I adore her hair. It's so pretty and curly and started with pinky hues, and now more blonde. During Baked Alaska/Bin-Gate week Kate wore a really pretty braid across her curly locks, so I decided to try that since I've got curly hair too if you couldn't tell. I then developed this braid so it went all the way around my head like a heavenly halo. How angelic do I look, hehe!

Some songs I have on loop for a really long time and just never get round to writing about them. Others I only really get into after they've debuted in the charts. Dance On My Own is one of the latter. I don't know much about M.O, but I do know that they make some very groovy tunes. They remind me of a new Mis-Teeq, who were my fave. They are far from duplicates of the nineties girl group as their sound was very R&B and M.O have a lighter sound. It's difficult to describe so maybs you should just go and listen to it..

A Dressed Down, Dinner Out

Hey Guys!

In this past week I feel like I've been more social than I have in the past 6 weeks combined! This was mainly because my babes of a buddy, Becky, is moving off to America for a year! So we had to fill her final week with fun and frolics. We began our series of dates with a yummy dinner from ASK Italian. I had some sort of courgette pasta dish, who knows what it was actually called but it tasted pretty good to me. After this we moved to a local Wetherspoons and then onto another drinky place.

I was in a bit of a tizz about what to wear. I almost had to make the pathetic call to the girls to ask, 'What are you going to wear tonight?' However, I soldiered on and came up with this look. For once the outfit turn out pretty much exactly how I had it all pictured in my head. I started with the black and white striped dress and threw the denim shirt over the top for a dressed down appearance. Since these two pieces are wide with no fitted shape, I wasn't really feeling it so I put a belt on to form a more flattering figure (not that you can see it under the shirt). But we all know how Row Bow likes to overdress certain elements for every occasion. So I put up ma huurr and wrapped a pretty square scarf around it, slung on a necklace & an assortment of rings and coloured in those luscious lips, et voilĂ ! Dressed down but still suitable for town!

That gaggle of boys who go by the name of One Direction have managed to take a quick breather from touring, and in this time put out a new song. Fireproof is an exclusive track for fans who pre-order their new album, creatively titled Four #Genius, HeHe! The track is a lot smoother than previously releases from the One Direction camp. There is a more natural sound, which focuses a lot less on heavy production elements, with the boys voices accompanied by only guitar riffs and soft drum sounds. It reminds me of the 1975's/old school indie kind of sound, which I think is where the boys see themselves heading.

Say Yee-haw!

Hey Guys!

For our summer show at work we were rehearsing for a cowboy bun-fight at the O.K Corral. Naturally in a kiddie friendly version of a good ol' cowboy western, you replace guns with bread buns. Duh! One Saturday I was inspired by the theme of our rehearsals and went for a little cowgirl look myself.

I feel like I hardly wear most things in my wardrobe, but because its the case for almost all pieces I keep them. I'm glad I do because it means I can whip out bad boys like this Karen Millen denim playsuit and it still feels super special. I once wore the playsuit on a super sunny day and I was working on an art project in the sun all day. I ended up with a beautifully strong, square tan just around the top of my chest and back. Oops! This time I chose to cover up with a really casual red plaid, lumberjack shirt. I think these two elements go together well as they both evoke hard-wearing, rough and tumble connotations. But then the night before I had seen a young teen programme showing a tutorial on headscarf wearing. So I decided to give it a whirl for work. I've explained the tutorial in my Chasing the Country Bumpkin post here.

The very beginning of So There, Alexa Goddard's latest effort, has a heavily Bangra (I hope that's the one I mean) influenced sound. This continues through out the song although the addition of the drums and electric guitar that kick in added more traditional pop elements to the song. There's no denying the chorus has an infections choirs with all the ye-ea-ye-ea-ye-ea-yeah-ing. I think this should have really been put out at the beginning of summer, because I can just picture a beautiful sunset and huge festival tents with lots of people and piggy backs for the music video.
