Pretend Tourist

Hey Guys!

When I was looking for a crib to live in for my first year of Uni, I really had no idea who I'd end up living with. After a pretty darn stressy time, I finally nabbed the last place in a lovely 6-bed. I say lovely but that it not really the word to describe it...nice, liveable and a habitat to provide a much needed roof over my head is a slightly better description. We were a beautifully eclectic mix with a few first years, a second year and a Post Grad International-er all studying a range of courses from Fashion (that's me, if you hadn't guessed!) to Midwifery and Sports shenanigans. You can check out my housemate's faces here in my christmas dinner post. The aforementioned PG International-er is from the far away land of New Zealand which obvz means he's desperate to do ALL the touristy stuff in London. As the willing and fantastically amusing housemate that I am, I offered to accompany my buddy on a trip hitting up the best touristy places.

First, we went to Madame Tussauds. I'd been here like 4 years ago, but if was defo worth a visit to see all the new wax works. We even managed to have a cheeky snap with One Direction. See if you can spot Matt amongst the 1D boys!

After grabbing a spot of lunch and picnicking with a spectacular view of the London Eye, we scuttled on over the the London Sea Life Aquarium. These are all iPod piccys since I didn't want to scare the fishes with the bold flash of a camera (especially if they weren't camera ready!). I'll warn you that before you see any fish there is a little photo sesh which I was totally not ready for! Natch, Matt and I were total professionals and gave our best model game.

As we were eating lunch I joked that I really wanted to be in the orange capsule of the London Eye, and if we weren't it would have ruined my whole experience. Although the queue looked enormous, we breezed through it and just as I thought they were about to put the barrier up we snuck onto the orange capsule. If I'm honest I don't think it makes a massive difference compared to the other pods, but at least now I'll always remember which on I went in. HeHe!

And here's what I wore...

Thanks Matt!

Tapas No More

Hey Guys!

It has to be said that one of my favourite things to do, ever, is going out for dinner. I could go on about how I love putting the perfect outfit together and the positive atmosphere whilst being surrounded by special people means the world to me. BUT lets not lie, this is Row Bow here and the over ruling factor is obviously the FOOD! I could quite happily spend my whole day, every day sat eating delicious food. This particular evening, the clan and I went to my favourite restaurant ever, the local Tapas. Little did I know that this would be the last time I could over-indulge to my hearts content with the spanish cuisine, since it closed down all of a sudden 2 weeks ago. I'm so sad!

Let's move on to the outfit before it dawns on my that I'll never be able dine on the best music paper bread ever again. I'm pretty chuffed with my outfit since it was a quatre-of-an-hour-before-we-go-and-I-don't-want-to-wear-what-I-wore-to-work-so-what-shall-I-choose kind look. Since it was a terrifically hot day I embraced the warmth and bared my legs. The safari/paper-bag waist/I'm never really sure what to call them shorts are ideal for sticky weather as the pale, lightweight cotton allows for a good circulation of air and reflection of the heat. Because they come up to quite a high waist the floral crop top hangs nicely around the top of the shorts. It also helps its a good 2 sizes bigger than me! But you'd never guess. I really wanted some good statement necklaces since my current collection are all borderline, but are still a bit delicate looking. This total barg from Primark definitely makes a statement. The black rope structure is a lot more graphically obvious compared to metal and jewel details.

A Lovely Long Overdue Lunch

Hey Guys!

Since finishing College I have been the most useless friend and hardly seen any of my buds at all! I have one friend in London with me, who I've met up with a couple of times. But apart from that I just end up stalking them on Facebook and forget I haven't seen them in real life for way too long. This week I met up with my trusty arty pal, Kayla. I still can't believe it had been 2 years since when we met up it felt like I'd seen her only yesterday!

I had a really pretty, girly, pink look all planned for out date. I decided to try it on the night before to make sure it looked as good as I thought it would, because the amount of times my little noggin has been totally wrong is cray! Sure enough when I had my lovely shirt and skirt on I realised that I could defo not wear it out the house. If I'm honest the skirt it waaaay too short and I just need to get rid of it. But it's super pretty, all navy and floral with a delicate ribboned bow. After a quick rummage I managed to put this number together. However, in the cuffuffle of racing about trying to leave at a sensible time (which definitely didn't happen!) I forgot to change my shoes and ended up going in these grotty white trainers. I've had these since the middle of secondary school and they're a quick go to if I'm not doing anything important. I meant to wear a pair of little brown chelsea boots, so you'll have to use you imagination. I managed to put on the frilly socks but not the fancy shoes, D'oh!

I even straightened my hair for the momentous occasion. Centre partings don't usually suit me, but my natural parting is just off centre and that allows my hair to frame my face in a far more flattering way.

Now, unless you've been living in a box for the past few days you'll know that Taylor Swift has done an, almost, Beyonce and dropped her new single onto iTunes without telling anyone. Cheeky! Shake It Off is the debut single from Taylor's upcoming album 1989. Even though she's still nominated for Country Singer awards, I really son't feel any country vibes from her music anymore. Shake It Off it a very catchy number, due to the repetitive nature of the song, and replaces the country-guitar twangs for song jazzy trumpet toots.

We Like To Par-tay... in Polka

Hey Guys!

Now that I've finished writing all about my teaching, school-adventures I can fill you in as to how I've been spending my summer. I even went to a party. Woah, crazy Row is out! I've spent time socialising with people my own age. I'm not gonna lie, after spending a month hanging out with 10 year-olds it was actually a nice change. My whole outfit is a new purchase from Kylie at M&Co. I waited especially until it was all in the sale because there's nothing better than doing a sale haul! Look out for the special guest at the bottom of today's post!

The red polka dot assemblage is made up of a cute little collared shirt, which has a couple of buttons down the back, and a pair of shorts with braces appendages. When I first saw these in store I instantly knew they would look amazing together, because of the print, it would look so intense. Then when I tried the pieces on together I just couldn't walk out of the shop without them. When I realised I had this get together coming up it became my one and only valid reason to pick up more clothes. I'm trying to have a massive clear out of my bedroom, but I just keep refilling the space with new clothes. Oopsie! I wasn't sure about the embroidered denim jacket at first. 1) Its a very pale shade, b) Its a big, boxy shape and iii) The length of the jacket and sleeves didn't look quite right on me when I tried it on. But if I'm being totally honest with myself I did really need to obtain a denim jacket that actually fitted my whole torso, and not just squeeze onto half my arms and back. I really like the contrast this outfit has going on as the red polka dot pieces appears really girly with the shapes and fabric, and the jacket iconically a tougher look and the denim holds its shape and silhouette better.

Initially I had waaaay too many rings on since I thought I should attempt to accessories with something. But in the end I liked it better just the way Hearsay like it, pure and simple.

It's Elspeth, Becky, Aimee and James, whe-hey! Watch out guys now you've featured in a Row Bow post, don't let the fame go to your heads!

Both my fave Ella girls have debuted new tunes in the past week, so I thought I'd let you know about both of them. Lucky you! Ella Eyre's second solo single is called Comeback and it is one jazzy tune. I like how the lyrics are how everyone's been hurt in love, then she's like, 'Let that Mother****** burn!' #PreachIt! Ella Henderson has also premiered her new single Glow, due out in September. I think it's in a very similar vein to Ghost- which I ADORED- with a kind of eerie air to it. But less in Ella's voice and more in the tune of the song. There's no denying she is a lyrical whizz, far more poetic than some songs... I can't wait to get my mitts on her album, Chapter One, soon.

Rather Prada

Hey Guys!

A short while ago (back in May, oops) I went to the Pradasphere exhibition in Harrods. I don't think I've ever been to Harrods in my adult life, so that was a nice part of the trip too. This was a free little exhibition detailing the history of the fashion label, PRADA. It was really interesting to see the early collection of objects that were sold and how the designs have progressed to modern day. It would have been super useful it I'd have actually posted this look in May then you could have gone to. Nice one Row Bow! My outfit was fun and girly with pretty pink and purples accompanied with florals and pearls. I added a tan belt and brown chelsea boots to mature the colour pallet slightly.

I will always remember the 1950's american imagery of the PRADA Spring/Summer 2012 collection. The advertising campaign is one of my all time favourites with leggy models posing at the petrol pumps and perching upon the cars.

This was my absolute favourite cabinet of clothes in the collection. Everything was all white and clean and had silver sparkles glistening in the light. It reminded me of 1920, Gatsby-Style party wear. Beautiful!

I know what I'm putting on my christmas list. I've always loved any see-through raincoat and this bad boy even comes sprinkled in jewels. Perfect!

Me and my friend love our Disney, so when we saw the little cafe we were desperate to go in. But after seeing the target customers dining in there we decided we were probs a couple feet too tall and a smudge too old. We loved the decor, regardless, especially the big ben in the centre of the cafe, which reminded us of Peter Pan.

Schools Out, 60's Style

Hey Guys!

Finally, I made it to the last day of term! I should't say finally real, since it meant the end of my time working at the primary school. I love begin there and helping out they're always so thankful for my time and effort and the kids are solo sweet! They even made me a wonderful card with pictures of the class play I help with, all over it. There were some questionable spelling of my name (which was on even the board for them...awks...) but the messages were adorable. For the next week I began dinner my reading excerpts from Row's Thanks You Card. HeHe!

This is a new dress from Launrdy Boutique, which is an online shop I found on twitter after I saw one blogger had a discount code. I applause their super fast delivery. I did have an issue with the first dress I received but it was all dealt with very promptly and now I have an enviable dress which looks super vintage. Personally, I think it's the vivid orange and lime green combination and the print looks just like some classic 1960's wallpaper! To aide the 60's scenario I had going on, I wore a simple pony tail and full fringe and tried to wing out my eyeliner a little more. I kept a neutral lip and added a little bit of blush so not to depart to heavily from the iconic 60's makeup.

Snazzy Floral, Glittery Nail Foils. Ohh-Err Missus!

With a title as cool as This Is How We Do, I just wasn’t sure I’d be digging Katy Perry’s latest release as much as I loved Birthday. But having now watched the video, I love it! It doesn’t take much to sway Row, just some pretty visuals and I’m yours. Johnny Wujek is the mastermind behind all of Katy’s looks and he has done a stellar job on the latest video. Who ever came up with the treatment for this vid deserves an applause. The track does have a small inkling towards the ‘mandem g’ side of things but the aesthetic of the accompanying video creates more of a 90’s cool kid vibe instead of modern swag. Katy pulls it off to a T!

I Luv Sporths!

Hey Guys!

After a long busy day at the Zoo the previous day, what makes more sense than having Sports Day the very next day. HeHe! It did make logical sense really, in that the school building is all higgle-de-piggle-de ready for the make over throughout the summer holidays. This way all the kids are out and not all squished as they share class rooms. Last year I went in to work in one outfit an changed into my hot sports gear. This year I just went for it and went to work wearing my sporty ensemble. But I put in some cuter elements so it still had a Row Bow edge during the morning. I got several compliments showing I managed to hit the right balance between pratical and pretty. #winning!

Instead of a sporty, strappy little vest top I chose this new thang which was a mere £3 in the sale from Primark. Anything Disney and I am up for it! I'm surprised lots of the kids recognised Bambi since its one of the original Disney films. I remember being traumatised at the very beginning of the film, when I was little, so I don't remember a lot else. Apart from the cute forest friend Bambi makes, like Thumper who is also on my top. Luckily, with my sisters, between the three of us we've managed to accumulate enough P.E shorts that I have a choice. Out of black, dark navy blue and these royal blue shorts I thought these went the nicest with the purple tones of the top. Sports Day happened to be the day after I received my vey first BirchBox which contained a lovely purple Lip Lube (suggestive or what...!) so naturally I test ran that out during a day of exercise! Who wouldn't? And just because I felt that I didn't look like a big kid enough I wove a lilac ribbon through my hair to really get those 7 year old vibes going. HeHe!

I attempted little white frilly socks too, but my hi-tops appeared to be a little to high to see the socks!

Leah McFall has kind of been releasing little bits and bobs here and there, but I think this is her first serious chart contender. It’s kind of floating around just outside the Top 40 at the moment, but I think it deserves to do way better than that. Home samples a small trumpet section from the Edward Sharp and Magnetic Zero's song of the same name, but the rest of the production is very different to create the original. Will.i.am offers a paced interlude which slows down the track over the middle 8, but then Leah lungs are back to round off the song. I adore the pastel styling for the video and the creative shapes and fabric used, not too sure about that fringe though. Something’s not quite right about it…

We're Going to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo!

Hey Guys!

There are many advantages to volunteering at a Primary school at the end of the school year. The biggest one is that you get to participate in all the activities for free. For me that included going to the Zoo for the day! I really lucked out there! We went to Marwell Zoo, which I've never been to before and if I'm honest I was a little disappointed since there were NO ELEPHANTS. Like whut? Are you sure you qualify as a Zoo if you don't even host the best animal? Urm... I think not... But it was a pretty special day apart from that. I was responsible adult No.2 in the minibus with the oldest children in the school. I may have happened to have slipped the Frozen soundtrack into my handbag before we set off so guess wheat we had an almighty chorus of as we made our way there... Let It Goooo, Let It Goooo! I am such a big kid. We did pump it pretty loudly and perhaps too loud for adult No.3 but what are you gonna do? Life for singing about building snowmen, and I'm going to sing it!

On a day when you're out and about you don't want to be dragging around a change of clothes. So I decided to go for a sensible out fit and wear trousers. All my skirts and dresses would have been blowing about, even thought it defo wasn't windy they'd have managed it. Or I'd have unintentionally flashed to the whole school and all the other visitors which probs isn't the best idea. these trousers are so stylised that I wasn't sure which top to pair them with. I didn't really want to go plain since I've already worn them with a white top here. I chose the aztec printed top with it's sprinkling of other colours for interest, it's also lightweight and airy which was perfect since it was such a blimmin' hot day. Words cannot express how much I adore my head chain. It's uber cool and unique. Not many people are brave enough to risk a head chain but I bit the bullet and bought this bobby-dazzler for only £2.10 (inc p&p) on eBay! Not gonna lie a few of the kids were pretty bemused by the contraption on my head but I think they warmed to the idea.

Check out my beautiful collage of the day, below. That delightful gorilla photo was taken through a tiny crack in some wood paneling. Showing some serious skills there Row!

To have the head chain running through my sock bun I first tied my hair in 2 bunches on the top of my head. I then placed the head chain on my head and tied the 2 bunches into one piny tail then rolled the sock in as usual. So clever!

I’m not gonna lie, since Ally and Austin is one of the Disney shows my younger sister was into, I just felt like it was a totally new generation of Disney and that I should stick with what I know with my Hannah Montanna tunes and J.O.N.A.S tracks. But Vevo persuaded me to give R5 (Ross Lynch ‘Austin’ ‘s band) a listen, if only to watch the deep do-do they’d gotten themselves into in the video. I was a little confused watching it at first (due to intermittent internet, Grrrr) but it’s actually quite easy to follow. The song may have then made its way onto my playlist and I have possibly been giving that play button it’s fair share of pressings. R5 have given their rockiest release to date with Heart Made Up On You. I just wish Ross’ lead vocals were a little deeper and gruffy, his voice blend into the instruments a little.
